Strategic Property Partners, the development firm behind Tampa’s Water Street district, filed plans with the city this week for a $200 million mixed-use tower that would add 350 residential units, 120,000 square feet of Class A office space, and a 15,000-square-foot public market hall to the rapidly growing neighborhood.
The 32-story tower, tentatively named “Water Street Market Tower,” would occupy one of the last undeveloped parcels in the original Water Street master plan, located at the corner of Channelside Drive and Meridian Avenue.
“This project completes the original vision for Water Street as a walkable, mixed-use urban neighborhood,” said Jeff Vinik, the district’s primary investor, in a statement. “The public market hall is something the community has been asking for — a place to gather, eat, and shop that’s open to everyone.”
The public market concept draws comparisons to Pike Place Market in Seattle and Reading Terminal Market in Philadelphia, with plans for 30 vendor stalls featuring local food producers, artisans, and specialty retailers.
The Tampa planning commission will review the proposal at its April 15 meeting. If approved, construction is expected to begin in late 2026 with a projected completion date of early 2029.
